A Consumers Guide to Low Cost Nonprofit Content Management Systems

We're proud to release our long-awaited Consumers Guide to Nonprofit Content Management Systems, in partnership with Beaconfire Consulting. It’s free to download—just register below.

Generally speaking, Content Management Systems (CMS) let you build a website that can be quickly and easily updated even by non-technical staff members. Targeted at nonprofits looking to replace an existing Content Management System, or implementing one for the first time, this report is relatively easy for someone with a non-technical background to understand, but not so basic that it won’t be of value for the technically savvy. We’ve also included a directory of consultants with experience helping nonprofits install and implement the systems covered in this report to help you find the right person for your project.

Past versions of this report focused specifically on open source CMS products, but we expanded it to look at other types of systems to better help you determine what will work best for your organization.  It now provides a look at 11 popular available Content Management Systems—WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, Plone, Squarespace, ExpressionEngine, Luminate CMS, NetCommunity, DotNetNuke, Ektron, and eZ Publish—and what they do to help you get a sense of what to look for, and then dives in for a more detailed look at each.

Learn more during our online training sessions:
Choosing the Right Content Management System -- Session 1 - November 8 | Session 2 - November 29
In this introductory session, we'll talk about the features that differentiate simple from powerful content management systems, compare open-source to vendor-distributed options, and talk about the strengths and weaknesses of each CMS for typical foundation needs.

We’d like to thank all our sponsors and contributors for helping us bring you this report—especially our lead sponsors, Beaconfire Consulting, Firefly Partners and New Signature—and we’d like to thank you for your interest and continued support of Idealware.
